Purple Heart presentation for John Gualtier On Tuesday, Sept 1st, there will be a committal service for Lester Bernard Cook, a WWII and Korean War veteran who served as a member of the original force of Darby’s Rangers, and who was awarded two Silver Stars. Due to the significance of this unit’s contribution to heroic combat action in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria to include scaling the cliffs during the Normandy invasion, fighting off thousands of Chinese in hand-to-hand combat in Korea, infiltrating deep behind enemy lines in Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia, parachuting into Grenada, Panama, and Afghanistan into the heart of enemy held bases under withering fire to initiate the following invasion of American forces, I am requesting an all-hands on deck event in support of this veteran’s service due to the historical significance of this military unit.
